So who is Marquetta? I am a counselor with a BA. Ed.S. LPCA. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S) degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Murray State University. I am a member of professional organizations such as the Kentucky Counseling Association (KCA). Also became a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and American Mental Health Counseling Association (AMHCA) in 2016.
I have worked for a State Agency for over ten years. Additionally, I have worked in a residential substance abuse treatment program that treated dual diagnosis clients, but most of all I am human. Through out my experiences as a counselor, I learned that I must take steps to ensure that I am happy, fulfilled and living my life just as God would have me to do so that I could better help my clients.
I decided to start a blog to empower counselors. As a counselor and through different experiences, I understand the feeling of burnout, compassion fatigue, and the time it takes to recover from it. Also, I understand that I never want to experience it again. I now know and understand the importance of self-care. Therefore, my mission is to help counselors recognize it, regain their energy and momentum to continue to carry the torch that empowers their clients.
